Transforming hits into drugs directed against molecular targets, signaling pathways or diseases is an extraordinarily difficult and costly process. Hits that emerge from screening campaigns or identified early in a therapeutic program are not well characterized from a pharmacology, safety, or toxicology perspective. Our teams of accomplished scientists are recognized experts in drug discovery and development, with strong experiences in drug discovery programs against GPCR's, kinases, proteases, ion channels, and nuclear hormone receptors across a breadth of disease states that include oncology, infectious disease, metabolic disease, immunology/inflammation, respiratory, central nervous system, and eye disorders.
Using WuXi AppTec's comprehensive capabilities and capacity, our scientists work with our partners in numerous ways. For example, beginning with biological assays (molecular and cellular assays) and hits, our medicinal chemists, in vitro biologists, in vivo pharmacologists, and DMPK scientists work together in an iterative fashion to optimize the hits into qualified lead series. This approach ultimately leads to optimized candidate compounds that can enter preclinical development. Our preclinical development team rapidly develops an efficient and scalable process for producing cGMP-API, thereby shortening the time to develop and manufacture product supplies for clinical trials. WuXi AppTec’s experienced toxicology team develops a complete toxicology program that ensures consistency with IND requirements. Our bioanalytical team measures clinical PK, as well as measures biomarkers to determine a drug candidate's effects.
